Hi FFL Families,

I hope this message finds you healthy and doing okay.  As the community begins to re-open from Shelter in Place (SIP), we are completing our plans for the upcoming season. As usual, we’ll be teaching the basic skills and fundamentals of football and cheerleading, while maintaining high standards for equipment, instruction, hygiene and overall environment. We’d love to have you with us.

Recently,Alameda County lessened the limits on sports participation. They issued orders allowing outdoor group exercises under the following conditions:

  • Limited to 12 people at a time, spaced at least 6 feet apart at all times
  • Person-to-person contact prohibited
  • Sharing equipment is prohibited

Official guidelines are great for setting protocols, but we want to hear from you. Your safety and comfortability are important to us, and help guide what we do beyond the protocols.  Please complete our “Community Survey”. Completing this survey will help us to determine levels of interest and comfortability   in participating in our upcoming programs.

In regards to upcoming programs, we are currently prepared to offer football and cheer camps/clinics starting in late July – early August. We will evaluate updates from Alameda County, and City of Fremont, officials, as well as any concerns from the community, before setting final dates.  All gatherings will follow the most current health guidelines.  As we move in to the Fall 2020 Season we are remaining flexible, and responsive to guidelines from health officials and feedback from the community. However, we have set the foundation for the following programs:

  1. Tackle Football Program – we have continuing partnerships with teams in Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon Valley, and Walnut Creek for athletes aged 10 – 14.
  2. Flag Football Program – we are prepared for participants aged 6-10 (may be extended to age 14).
  3. Cheer Program – we are prepared for a Sideline Cheer option for participants aged 6-14 (may be expanded to include Competition Cheer).

In light of the fluid nature of the current situation, all programs will be free of chargeuntil we have started the game season.  Fees will be refunded or prorated if the season is shortened due to Covid-19. That being said, we need families to click and  complete the surveyand register for a programas soon as possible, so that we can appropriately plan for a safe, successful, and enjoyable season. For returning participants, Blue Sombrero is now Sports Connect; all account information remains the same.

In closing, systemic racism and what we’ve seen happening in our country over the last few weeks, concerns us all deeply. As an institution in our community, it is important for us to state what we believe.  We believe in a level playing field for all and the power of sport to help move the world forward.  We believe that athletes and coaches play an important role in creating an inclusive culture within our football family and our communities.  We believe that the successful development of ANY athlete includes development of courage, resilience, and character, that is not limited to a football field, sideline or cheer mat.  We believe that, “When sports are done right, they cannot fix racism, but the positive and inclusive actions of coaches, parents, student-athletes, organizational and school leaders throughout the country can start to reverse an age-old trend of systemic racism.”(Positive Coaching Alliance)
